NESMAlive! compilation CD!

The North East Surf Music Alliance has released an exciting new compilation CD on Beach House Records called NESMAlive! This includes 17 live tracks from NESMA bands.

Dan Surkis (AKA Dano Clam of The Clams) produced this CD with NESMA and shares a few thoughts with us now.

bulletSo, tell us about the CD.

NESMAlive! includes 17 tracks from different NESMA bands. These were all recorded at live shows, most of which were NESMA Surf Summits. I had been recording some NESMA shows from time to time, and had collected a good start on the material for the project. Other tracks were all donated to NESMA by the bands. Also, Phred Rawles donated his superb artwork skills for the whole CD package.

bulletWow, a lot folks really chipped in for this project!

Yes, one of the reasons for this project was to help support NESMA. NESMA has become a huge force in promoting surf music and supporting surf bands. Not everyone realizes that NESMA exists solely on the good will and boundless energy of Mike Rosado and Sandy Brooks. They put a ton of time and money in to keep up the website, book shows, publish the directory and sampler CDs, and so much more - and they never ask for cent in return! One of the purposes of the compilation disc was to help cover some of NESMA's mail and publishing expenses. Everything for this project -  the music, recording, mastering, artwork, even the first pressing of the CDs -  was donated to NESMA by its members.

bulletWhat are the other purposes behind the CD?

Promoting the bands and music of NESMA, of course! As a professionally packaged and commercially released CD, this disc has the potential to reach a wider audience then ever. NESMAlive! can be sold anywhere, but also donated to web and on-air DJs and reviewers. Also, contributing bands can buy the discs at cost for their own sales and promotion.

bulletSo, who's on it?

bulletCool! where can I get one?!
