10:00 sharp, Shecky and the Twangtones started playing.
What a laid-back feel these guys promote. The
bongo/percussion guy was impeccable. Shecky Davis looked
really relaxed and played very fluidly. And that
fretless custom bass mounted on a stand had a
well-rounded thump and the bass player hinged back and
forth. Very cool and a little jamming on Baja too!
But I was really there to see the TarantinosNYC. The
closer they came to playing, the more Hanks had filled
with people. So at 11:00 when they started playing the
place was packed. What did I notice first ....new
instruments. Patty has a new-looking Danelectro Longhorn
bass and Paul is playing a sweet black and white Strat.
I see the whole black and white theme has totally come
together. They played some Link Wray, some Surfrider,
Ennio Morricone and of course their magnum opus, A
Fist Full of Reverb. I had to leave Brooklyn USA so I
missed Mr. Action and the Boss Guitars but I left happy
to have seen yet another cool TarantinoNYC show at the
funkiest down home saloon west of Rockaway Beach (that
is, Hank's Saloon). Thanks guys.
PS: Did you notice all the soundproofing put up on the
windows and doors at Hank's?
