8/4/06 - 9th Wave and
Ronnie Lake in Brooklyn, NYC
FRIDAY night August 4th I caught a 1-2 surf-rock punch of a show at HANK'S
SALOON in Brooklyn, promoted by the Birthday Girl, Blue StingRaye.
On the bill: 2 hot bands from other states....
First up, THE 9th WAVE from Connecticut pounded out some killer hot-rod surf;
PHRED has moved back to the Northeast, and was sitting in behind the skins'
I don't know if that was the reason, by let me say this straight out...I have
never heard/seen the 9th Wave so precision-tight....; they offered a bunch
of new tunes that'll be on their next CD...and it all sounds glorious.
Then leather-clad RONNIE LAKE from Minnesota, and her band, hit the stage....she
never let up from the first note/power chord...intense set, probably more
rock n roll than surf, though nonetheless the mixture was lethal.
